Cooking with the Dog - DIY Peanut Butter Carob Dog Treats

Hello and Happy Easter!  I am back from family vacation just in time to share an easy Easter (or anytime) DIY doggie treat recipe with my fellow animal lovers.

Peanut Butter Carob Dog Treats
  • approximately six standard (big button sized) carob drops
  • approximately 2 tbsp (roughly equal amount to carob) peanut butter, preferably smooth
  • dog biscuit treats of your preference
  • dog kibble biscuits of your preference (or other dog-friendly sprinkles)
  • waxed paper or bakers paper on a plate
Roughly crush the dog biscuits and set aside. Roughly chop your carob drops, and combine with peanut butter. Carob can be difficult to melt compared to chocolate -  it's usually drier/lower fat, so mixing with with something like peanut butter helps with melting into a smooth dip.  Individual carob and peanut butters may vary, but in my experiences to date equal roughly equal measures set to a firm fudgey solid texture. You can use a little less if you want a harder set or swap in a little coconut oil if you need a runnier liquid.  Microwave on medium heat, stirring every 30 seconds until combined. Slather onto your big biscuits (I used store-bought bone shapes, as shown), sprinkle with crushed kibble bickies, and place on paper.  Refrigerate to set.  Serve with as individual VERY special treats, with a heaping side of love. :)
