Our dog was elated with his special pupcakes today in celebration of RSPCA Cupcake Day. We didn't make it to any official events due to none in our immediate areas (boohoo!) and work schedule, but we did pick up some toys at the local RCPSA shop (like his favourite new noise maker above!) and have our own mini-cupcake day at home. Sous-chef Oli and I baked these pupcakes last night, and he just had one as an evening treat. See the recipe below to make your own.
These particular cupcakes were an inspired-by recipe following yesterday's DIY dog treat recipe round-up. I picked Savory Flavour's pupcake recipe as the basis and adjusted it a little for a slightly smaller batch and more fruit/veg in the muffins (Oli is on a bit of a diet...). Here is the pup-approved pupcake recipe.
Oli's Special Pupcakes
1 cup self-raising wholemeal flour
1/4 cup oatmeal
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1/2 cup (I used a single-serve container) of plain yogurt (low fat is great, but avoid anything with xylitol!)
1/4 cup of water (adjust as needed for consistency of yogurt and juiciness of shredded ingredients)
1 apple (shredded)
1 carrot (shredded)
1/4 cup grated cheese
Mix ingredients and spoon into greased or papered muffin tins, filling each cup about three quarters full. Bake at 180C for 15-20 minutes. Cool and feed to one very happy pup! Remember, treats are for spoiling your pup in moderation. Some dogs have special dietary requirements and/or food allergies/intolerances. If you are ever in doubt or have questions about your dog's diet and health, have a chat with your vet.
